Although this garden had a south facing aspect, the ground rose up steeply straight out of the kitchen/diner doors to a twelve foot wall topped with three foot fencing making it feel gloomy and enclosed.
The brief was to create a low maintenance garden with scope for entertaining and a tucked away shed area for storage and bins.
We cut the seating area into the grass bank and constructed a painted brick, ‘C’ shaped bench with hardwood seat planks. The rest of the bank was disguised with multi level decking and then everything was painted in light tones to catch and reflect the light.
With low maintenance architectural planting, soil topped with blue slate chippings and then further enhanced with dramatic lighting the space was transformed.
The side return was finished in contrasting blue slate and white spar gravel with a section fenced off to hide a new shed and rubbish bins.
